Peter Max's art work was a part of the psychedelic movement in graphic design. His work was influential and much imitated in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It was almost a staple in advertising graphic design and can be seen in many of that eras advertisements.
Peter Max the artist later evolved into neo-expressionism, working with multiple media, including oil, acrylics, water colors, lithographs, and serigraphs.
Peter Max paintings often use symbols of America, his most famous collection is the patriotic series consisting of paintings of the American flag and the Statue of Liberty.
He has done paintings and projects for many presidents. His work has been featured in the Clinton inauguration, as well as at The White House. He has also designed four Grammy-Award posters and was the official artist of the 1994 World Cup.
